REMINISCENCE

23 Oct

Today was a day, much like any other day except it turned out to be a day of remembering the bands of my youth.

Funny thing is, I’m not the one who brought it up but at three different places, with three different people, I was reminded of popular bands of the 1970s and ’80s.  I was reminded of disco, hard rock, rock operas and folk rock, if you can say that about the band, America.

I was in the tuxedo store picking up a tuxedo for a wedding where I will be an usher this Saturday.  I met an exuberant man named Drew.  Drew is that wonderful personality of sales that you enjoy because he is your buddy for the time you’re in his presence.  We chatted about the tux and about weddings and then our ages and then, pant…pant, rock bands and concerts we attended in the 70s and 80s.  America, The Bee Gee’s, Moody Blues, Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Kansas and Emerson, Lake and Palmer were all touched upon.  Drew spent several years in radio and had the fortunate experiences of meeting a few of the band members along the way.  I had the experience 😉 of attending a few concerts at Blossom Music Center and a other venues along my travels.  It was a good time and because we know a couple of people in common, I’m sure Drew and I will meet up again.

A short time later, at Arby’s while I was waiting for my sandwich, I ran into another acquaintance with whom I exchanged pleasantries.   I got to hear about the Alice Cooper concert from last night in Greensboro.  Hmmm…I thought about whether I would’ve like to known about that one but decided that my sleep and sanity was more important but there are always the memories of days past.

So then back at work, I had an opportunity to chat with Adam, the landscaper that takes care of the property I manage.  When I asked him what was new he told me about the great concert he went to last night, yep, Mötley Crüe with Alice Cooper.  Hey, Tim didn’t tell me Mötley Crüe was there, too.  So, I told him I already heard about the Alice Cooper portion so he told me about the funtastic Mötley Crüe jam.  Fun was had by all except Adam’s wife when the gals on stage got a little loose.  Adam smiled a big grinning smile and winked.

An unexpected day of reminiscing about an age long, long ago.  I’m not so sure I could keep up with that life anymore.

On the way home from work I spoke to my dad on the phone, and had a real nice “current day” conversation.

The best part about being olderly is remembering or retelling of old times had during days of wonder.  I’m just happy that we didn’t talk about arthritis or bunions…wait ’til next decade.

Jay 🙂
